Our broiler chickens are going to be processed this week, and the mulberry trees are putting out fruit. So we cut off a fruitful branch and gave it to them as a treat during their last week. They were unsure at first, but once one ate one and found out how tasty they were, the rest joined in! We’ll give them a few more this week, but we don’t want to overdo it.

A side fact about mulberry trees; the leave can be eaten by animals and are fairly high in protein value, up to 15-35% depending on tree variety (source). With how prolific they grow around here, we’re hoping to look into taking advantage of this fact at some point.
